The Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer

The Type 45 Destroyer, is a class of guided missile destroyers built for the Royal Navy and is one of the most sophisticated air-defence platforms globally. These warships are equipped with advanced radar systems and can track and destroy enemy targets at significant distances, playing a crucial role in protecting the Royal Navy’s fleet from airborne threats. The Type 45 is known for its powerful Sea Viper missile system, sophisticated radar, and high manoeuvrability, making it a cornerstone of the UK’s maritime defence strategy.

Close collaboration with BAE

Through its work on this project, Integris will deliver a full-service solution that encompasses every aspect of ballistic protection—design, templating, and installation. Working in close collaboration with BAE Systems over nearly two years, Integris brings both technological innovation and practical know-how to ensure that the Type 45 receives the most effective ballistic defences possible. This end-to-end approach ensures the seamless integration of ballistic protection into the ship’s existing structure, providing a robust defence layer to support the crew in their high-stakes missions.

Steve Wilde, Integris UK Sales Manager, commented on the partnership:

“We are honoured to play such a critical role in safeguarding the Royal Navy’s capabilities through our ballistic protection solutions. This project demonstrates our commitment to delivering top-tier defence solutions and reinforces the value of our longstanding relationship with BAE Systems. We’re excited to see the first installation go live on Type 45, marking a significant milestone in the project.”

The initial order, confirmed in October 2024, is a testament to Integris’ proven capabilities in the defence sector. As ballistic threats evolve, Integris is committed to advancing its protective solutions to meet the increasingly complex challenges faced by modern naval vessels, ensuring that the Type 45 Destroyers maintain their defensive edge in diverse operational environments.
