Integris to provide advanced survivability solutions for Finland's major naval modernisation project – Squadron 2020
2 Jun, 2026

Integris, a global leader in advanced composite armour solutions, has been selected to supply its naval ballistic protective systems for four next-generation vessels being built for Finland’s major naval modernisation project – Squadron 2020. The ships are currently under construction by Rauma Marine Constructions, a premier naval and maritime vessel builder at their shipyard in Rauma.

This partnership began at the earliest stages of ship design, allowing Integris engineers to work closely with the shipbuilder’s project team to ensure optimal integration of survivability solutions while maintaining strict weight and performance targets, factors that are critical to modern naval operations.

“We have been working together with Integris and our design team to fully integrate the protection into the ship design that met our survivability requirements without compromising speed, range, or payload.” said Jari Nieminen, Programme Director at Rauma Marine Constructions.

Design and testing

The armour provided by Integris were tested and fully qualified in certified ballistic laboratories, ensuring compliance with international naval protection standards. Maritime environments present some of the most demanding and specialised protection requirements, including ballistic multi-threat performance, blast mitigation, corrosion resistance, and long-term durability under extreme operating conditions.

“Being selected by Rauma Marine Constructions as a partner reflects our team’s experience and expertise in designing and delivering lightweight, high-performance naval armour systems,” notes Jan Grimberg, Chief Commercial Officer of Integris.

Squadron 2020 is Finland’s naval modernisation program focused on building the Pohjanmaa-class corvettes to replace aging vessels and secure year-round maritime defence in the icy Baltic Sea. These 117-meter, multi-role warships built with ice-strengthened hulls—are designed for combat, surveillance, and support missions
